The whitewashing of one of the most prescient voices to ever live is a travesty. King was a radical who called out the evils of racism, poverty, and militarism. King knew that this system of capitalism was the driving force of these evils and called for a move towards democratic socialism. While there has been some progress in certain areas, the totality of what King stood for has been stripped to a more palpable retelling, often ignoring his work that came after I have a dream. We need MLKs politics of working class solidarity against a white supremacist capitalism and militarism today more than ever.
