Reflective Learning

Reflective Learning

A set of three evidenced learning logs
Learning outcome 2 – Recognise your own learning and development achievements and be able to evidence them in a series of learning logs.
You are required to produce a set of three learning logs, each one focusing on one specific graduate skill covered in this module. Each learning log should be approximately 600 words, and the total length between 1500 and 2000 words.

The logs should draw on your experiences from the lectures, workshops and group discussions as well as drawing on other appropriate examples from external activities such as employment, university life or voluntary work. The logs should be evidenced with feedback from the relevant activities as well as your own reflections, and should include an action plan setting out how you will develop these skills further.

Within the learning logs you are expected to reflect on your personal development and show self-awareness of your strengths and weaknesses. You should integrate academic theory and practice to develop useful and realistic action plans. Reflective learning will be demonstrated through being:
• Self-aware
• Honest about yourself
• Open to criticism and feedback
• Objective in up weighing evidence
• Open to and prepared to try different approaches
• Motivated to improve and continue independent learning

Each learning log should cover all four elements of the Learning Cycle:
Skill Development (Experience)
• The graduate skill you are reflecting on
• Description of key incidence(s) of the skill (e.g. class, university life, work etc…)
• What happened? What went well and what was not so good? Why?
• How did you feel?
Reflect and Analyse (Reflection)
• What were the key learning points, positive and negative?
• Why is this learning significant?
• What areas could be developed?

Applying Theory to Practice (Conceptualisation)
• How does this relate to other areas e.g. other modules, prior study work, work experience etc
• What have you learnt from reflecting on this incident? – utilise concepts from literature and show understanding
• How can you apply techniques in other situations to improve your skills?

Plans for further practice (Experimentation)
• How can you develop this skill further?
• How can you extend/sustain your reflective learning?
• Learning action plan – what, how, when, why?
