Que. 1) Working with Kimmerers text we have looked at the indigenous relationship with nature as opposed to that of Western Sciences relationship with nature. There are many deep philosophical questions we could examine comparing the two. I want you to consider this one: Kimmerer suggests that our Western Science tends to diminish our relationship with nature (and by nature you can include any metaphysical understanding of existence). Do you think this is true? If you think it is not true than challenge her assertion and explain youre thinking around this. If you think it is true than talk about how we have come to this state and what we might be able to do about it. Remember, that we are living in the Time of COVID and clearly in this republic there is much to learn about the idea of a diminished relationship with existence.

In the lecture and chapter on Toxic Legacy we discussed the two regions: Torne Valley at Ramapo New York, and Turtle Clan Country at Ringwood New Jersey. As you may recall, they are in very different states of recovery; while the Torne Valley has been completely excavated and remediation completed, Ringwood is sadly no where near the same place of recovery. What is the difference? How is it possible that these two municipalities have had such a completely different outcome? The toxins are the same. The discovery of the dumping has been thoroughly documented in both regions, and yet so little has been completed at Ringwood. Ringwood in fact has a greater number of immediate victims in the line of exposure! So, what hold up Ringwood getting full remediation?
