The role of Theories and Principles in Education for Work – My Philosophy as a lecturer
Project description
Introduction This assessment is based around the idea of the portfolio. A portfolio is a compilation of materials that exemplifies your attitudes, beliefs, skills, qualifications, education, training, and experiences. It provides insight into your personality and work ethic. All in all, it is a representation of your professionalism.
In the first pages when developing and compiling a portfolio, a lecturer usually writes his philosophy as a lecturer. This is a reflective process that summarises all the material that is found in the portfolio and is built on what has been placed in the portfolio.
The focus of this assessment focuses on building your philosophy as a lecturer. We are NOT asking you in assessment to attach any samples of your work (CV, projects, lesson plans and evaluations, etc) however, when developing your philosophy as a lecturer, we want you to reflect on these and make reference to these when developing this work and GIVE EXAMPLES from your everyday practices and your personal lives.
The basic task in this assessment is: Write your philosophy as a lecturer.
The points below need to be developed in your philosophy as lecturers. However, it is up to you how to develop these and add more to them. (D1)
Our suggestion is that you tackle this assignment as ONE write up of around 3000 words.
Points:
In the light of your reflections on your personal experience when you were at school/university, and in the light of how you teach now, reflect on how the learning environment has changed and developed (M1); explain (P5) and distinguish (P6) between some of the main theories and principles of teaching and learning and development of how you were taught and how you teach now.
We discussed in our lectures the issue of power, otherness and democracy. Show how these manifest themselves in your work and in the institution that you work in by explaining (P1) and distinguishing (P2) between some of the main philosophical thoughts and theories of education.
Think about your relationship with the students. Those of you who are parents think of this in relation to your own children. How can the ideas and theories discussed in our lectures help you to work with specific students (P8)?
