The learning objective for this unit is to research, analyze, and evaluate a legal controversy involving civil rights or civil liberties.
Question:
1Q: There are so many legal controversies that the courts must address. Of particular interest are issues of civil rights and civil liberties. After surveying chapters four and five, select an issue in the news that you care about (for example, school shootings, sexual harassment, police brutality) and research the controversy. Focus on the relevant Constitutional elements, Court precedents, and current laws. What should be done to address the issue? Write a three-page page essay of about 500 to 800 words. Include references (100 pts).
Compare and contrast liberalism (including its four sub-ideologies) and socialism. How are these two ideologies different? How are they similar? What makes people cling fast to an ideology? How do ideologies affect political outcomes? Why do we even have them? What goes into forming a political opinion?
You are attending an international journalist event and have been chosen to give a presentation of the roles of the media in influencing government and its citizens. As you complete your presentation, be sure to:
Use speaker's notes to expand upon the bullet point main ideas on your slides, making references to research and theory with citation.
Proof your work
Use visuals (pictures, video, narration, graphs, etc.) to compliment the text in your presentation and to reinforce your content.
Do not just write a paper and copy chunks of it into each slide. Treat this as if you were going to give this presentation live.

Here is the rubric: According to a strict interpretation of the Natural Rights Argument, the government is simply a tool of the sovereign and not the sovereign itself. If this is so, why would any part of government have the power to declare war and not the people, since declaration of war is a sovereign power?
There are 3 questions to answer
1. Discuss a situation in which you will write an expository/ informative essay? Explain how expository essays can be beneficial to you as an army leader?
2. Describe some differences between expository and descriptive essays? If given a choice which of these two essays would you prefer to write and why?
3. Which of the essay types covered are you most comfortable and why? What are the three parts of an essay? What does the five paragraph format consist of?
I will upload a document with answers from other people to have an idea how to answer those questions.
Prompt:
Equality, as a concept and/or as a practical political commitment, plays an important role in the theory of Thomas Hobbes, and the political practice of ancient Athenian democracy and Roman republicanism. Compare any two of them, (i.e., Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, ancient Athens, or ancient Rome), to answer the question: what is the political significance of citizen equality? In other words, in what ways did Hobbes, the Athenians, and Romans give political significance to equality? Include in your discussion an analysis of how one of these would respond to the other--for instance, how would Athenians respond to Hobbes idea of equality, or vice versa?
Week 8 Discussion Board - TED Talk: The Wall

The link above is an interesting discussion regarding the border wall and its usefulness (or non-usefulness) from an architect's perspective. Please watch the video and then discuss the following:
1) By executing an executive order to allocate funds to build a border wall, has the Trump administration usurped the appropriation powers reserved for Congress under Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution?
2) Why or why not? Explain your position in detail. When working on your discussion responses, please remember it is fine to disagree with another's opinion, but it is not cool to take it to a personal level. Remember, it's just a discussion! :)
