Final Project-Policy Issue

Instructions
You are a lobbyist for an issue that you find important. For example, you would like to see the banning of smoking in federal buildings (Note: This policy has already been enacted.) You are going to make an informational pamphlet to highlight your points to prominent members of Congress. Research members of Congress that you will target in your lobbying. Explain why these members are critical to your goal. Make a plan of action and produce a pamphlet supporting your cause. Who will you be reaching out to? Why? Write a cover letter to a Congressional member and include your reasoning for reaching out to them in particular in the letter. Remember a lobbyist is only as good as the information they provide. A lobbyist who provides incomplete or unreliable information will soon be unemployed, or lose access to officials.

Cover letter should:

Follow a standard business format
Correctly address your Congressperson

Research Paper on Interest Groups

Please select one of the following topics found on the list below concerning interest groups and the issues they represent.  You can review what interest groups do by referring to Chapter 11 in your textbook.

For instance, if you happen to choose gay rights, you have to research at least one interest group that supports  gay rights (e.g. National Gay & Lesbian Task Force) and at least one interest group that opposes anti gay rights (e.g. Traditional Values Coalition).

You must then research the websites of the interest groups representing the issue you have selected to write about.  The interest groups you select must be from the United States.

In your paper you must answer/summarize the following:

1.  Define what an interest group is.

2.  What is your opinion on the issue you chose to research? (no more than two paragraphs should be devoted to this section)

3.  Summar

1. What is this video about? Please provide an unbiased summary.

2. How does this relate to political economic concepts in this module? (i.e. what does it have to do with things like: mixed economies, externalities, public goods, inequality, etc.)

3. In what way could government potentially act to address the issue in the video that you watched?

4. What might explain why action to address the problem has not happened yet?

political science

In a 5 page paper, please address these questions in their entirety. Merely answering each question in isolation from one another is insufficient for full credit. What I expect from you is for you to form a thesis that binds your thoughts together. While no outside sources are required, you must cite any source you use, and I expect you to reference the material presented in both lecture and from the book. The paper should be 5 pages, double spaced, with 1 inch margins, 12 point font, and a widely used font (no odd fonts that either decrease or increase your papers length) Times New Roman, Calibiri, Arial are all appropriate.

U.S Intervention in Latin America

Do you think the nature of US intervention in Latin America during the post-independence to WWII period differed from intervention during the Cold War? If so, how? If not, why? Reference at least one concrete example of US intervention from each period to support your argument.

To answer this question, you are encouraged to think about the goals and objectives of the United States at the time of intervention, the broader international context, and the political orientation and development of the Latin American countries that experienced US intervention.
