Environmental Policy Analysis
This assignment has two goals:
1. It provides you the opportunity to explore an environmental issue of your choice and identify possible solutions etc.; and
2. You will be exposed to the principle components of how to analyse government policy.
You will be able to conduct a policy analysis of your own and address the following elements of a systematic policy analysis.
a. A description and analysis of the issue.
b. Specification and evaluation of the policy alternatives to deal with the problem.
c. An examination of the implementation issues involved with applying the policy solution to the problem. This is also an exercise in making trade-offs. You will develop criteria against which to evaluate policy alternatives and use those criteria to confront the trade-offs and to formulate a recommendation. The textbook describes several patterns and trends in religiosity across countries over time. What are the major patterns and trends? How does the United States differ, if at all, from the patterns in Western Europe and other members of the OECD?
In your essay, it may help to jump forward in the book to frame your response in relation to the six hypotheses described in Conclusions (pp. 215-241. The bulk of the material, or fodder for your answer is in Chapter 4 (pp. 83-110).
