Argumentative Essay

Write an argumentative essay on an ethical issue of interest using course materials. Just to name a few: the prison industrial complex, trans issues, homelessness, immigration, police brutality, corporate influence, media practices, fracking, sex work, pollution, indigenous rights, women's rights, workers rights. An argument is not a statement of your opinion; it is an attempt to support your position with reasons. This position is your thesis, or the stance you take on a particular topic. You should be able to express your thesis/conclusion in one or two sentences in the first paragraph of your essay. Your thesis states the conclusion you aim to prove. The argument you develop in the essay offers a set of reasons or evidence to support your conclusion or thesis. You will have some flexibility in the topic you choose to write about, however, you will need to include a discussion of readings from the course and documentaries from the course to provide some level of focus.

KANT, MILL, AND ETHICS

Module 3 - SLP
KANT, MILL, AND ETHICS
Find a moral problem in your place of employment. Tell me about it. What really bothers you and why? It need not be actually happening. The moral problem could be a potential problem, no matter how likely. Be creative. If you can't think of a real problem you will likely face, make one up.

Tell me what your position on the problem is, and what the relevant utilitarian and deontological considerations are. Who is being, or will be, hurt? Who is being, or will be, benefited? Why, overall, do you think your position on the issue is for the greatest good over the long haul? Whose rights are involved? Who has special duties?

Here are some possible topics:

Leaders and managers in the sport industry

When referring to the differences between leadership and management, the late leadership guru, Warren Bennis, said, Managers have their eyes on the bottom line; leaders have their eyes on the horizon and The manager does things right; the leader does the right thing (Bennis, 1989, p. 40).
Within sport organizations, who has the greatest control when it comes to making the decisions? For example, when it comes to a team in the National Basketball League (NBA), is the owner of the team (the leader) in control or the General Manager? When it comes to team issues, how might leaders and managers, as professionals in the sport administration industry, apply the concepts of ethics and management from this week?

The Island of Kora Case.  Please see attached case info as well as other documents to use for this paper

The Island of Kora acts as the case designed to bring all the points discussed in this class together.  Therefore, this case calls for an application of all the points that have been previously discussed.  After reading the case, write up a strategic plan designed to solve the islander's problems.  Your plan should include the theoretical basis your plan uses, the decision making procedure you would use, as well as the specific action you would take to solve the problems.  Do not forget that in the islander's eyes you are the Supreme Being.

The performance of staff can have a significant impact on the success of a company. What can companies do to increase staff productivity?

I put to references at the bottom, all you have to do is but the two references in the RACCA analysis. The RACCA you see down here is an example for you to see what this is about..:

Relevance to assignment

(include your assignment question)  This magazine article contains useful information and data about the performances of different types of hybrid and electric vehicles. It is relevant to the assignment question: To what extent are hybrid vehicles a solution to pollution and environmental damage, as it also compares the carbon dioxide emission and fuel efficiency of hybrid vehicles to traditional combustion engine vehicles.

1. At the end of Gone Baby Gone(movie), Patrick decides to call the police and return Amanda to her biological mother. Evaluate this decision using at least one theory from each of the following two groups: [GROUP A: Virtue Ethics/ The Ethics of Care] [GROUP B: Kantianism/Utilitarianism.] Explain whether (and why) you think that Patricks decision is morally legitimate, anticipating and addressing at least one significant potential objection to your view.

READ:  DAX'S CASE

All items you need for this are attached:

        1.  The major ethical question in DAX'S CASE revolves around the right of a person to refuse medical treatment and be allowed ultimately to die.  Each person involved in this case made his/her choice to ignore Dax's wishes and "treat" Dax.  You are to write a paper explaining each of the following person's viewpoints and identifying the theory (from t in the attached document) that most clearly defines the action that the person took with regard to Dax.  Remember that you are not expressing your views here but rather the views of each of  the participants.

          A.  Dax's mother  -    Ada Cowart

          B.  Dax's lawyer  -    Rex Houston

          C.  Dax's Doctors (only choose 1)  -

Choose one from the topics listed in instructions

1) Is the morally right thing to do always that thing which will increase general happiness?  Mill vs. Kant

2) Are you free, right now, to do anything but read to the end of this sentence?  Can it be fair to blame people for what they must necessarily do?  Kane vs. Sartre

3) Can it be moral to break a law that you consider to be unjust?  Plato vs. King

4) Can civil war be a war of art?  Tolstoy vs. Hume

5) Are scientific revolutions cumulative or incommensurable?  Popper vs. Kuhn

Choose one from the listed topics and compare and contrast as well as include own thoughts.

Two Parts: 1: Egoism, Altruism (chapter 4), and 2: Virtue Ethics (chapter 8)

For this discussion, you need to answer questions from both parts of this discussion focus:

1) The first is on egoism and altruism; for Part I, you have a choice on either the COVID-19 pandemic, or, from entertainment, The Hunger Games. So, in Part I, answer either option A or option B.

2) Part II, Virtue Ethics and the Edward Snowden case with the question of his virtue or vice.  In Part II, answer the virtue ethics set of question son Snowden.

You may break your main thread post into two posts, one post on PART I Egoism & Altruism; and PART II on Virtue Ethics.  Whatever works best for you.

If you break your main thread into two main threads, it still only counts as your one main thread so you'll still need to replies beyond that.

EGOISM: To many people, egoism is the most natural of human feelings.  Each living thing seeks its own self-preservati
