I decided to pursue an advanced practice major due to my interest in enhancing the nursing profession by contributing towards the provision of high-quality healthcare service delivery apart from research activities. An advanced practice nurse (APN) is a highly-educated nurse with advanced knowledge, skills, and clinical education whose role is to provide basic healthcare services that are focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing illnesses as well as referring patients to specialists apart from prescribing medication. Family nurse practitioners (FNP) are APNs whose role is focused on providing family-based healthcare services to patients in a family setting (Lambert & Housden, 2017).
