Causality. Does quantum mechanics support a particular account of causation? (1500 Word Limit)
Readings. You should draw on either Norton (2003) or Salmon (1980) as a concrete account of causation. For example, you could argue that quantum mechanics does/does not support Norton's view of causation as folk science, or that QM does/does not support a probabilistic view of causation.
Norton (2003):

Salmon (1980):

Background. A central topic of your discussion should be the notion of a superposition and the probabilistic predictions of quantum mechanics, so be sure to give at least a brief overview of how this works (although you will not have space to recapitulate the entire theory).

First, write an online article that helps readers understand an issue related to the environment. This half of the assignment should present evidence from credible sources, as well as some kind of visual aid. The second half of the assignment is to turn the article into a speech that will be presented to a younger audience.
The article should avoid making a direct argument and instead present information that you found through research. Use headings to organize your information, and hyperlinks and citations to show the reader where you got your information. The speech will present the same general information but will stick to the most important topics and use a different tone.
Your assignment should include the following elements:
A clear focus on an environmental issue
A hook to get the reader interested in the topic your article covers
A body made up of short paragraphs, each about a different topic
Headings to organize the different topics you cover

DIRECTIONS: The point of this paper is to use what you learned up to this point in the course to identify possible violations of hazardous waste law (CERCLA and RCRA) in a real-world type situation. This exercise requires you to identify potentially responsible parties as well as likely claims and defenses. In other words, you are to act as an EPA official and review the record provided below to identify each party's exposure to liability, as well as their potential defenses under CERCLA and RCRA.
You don't need to write a formal essay and do not include a title page, abstract or table of contents (just use the 1st page header in the syllabus). You can organize your paper by listing each of the parties who could be held responsible under RCRA and CERCLA (some parties may fall under both), and for each potentially responsible party, describe the potential violations and possible penalties - as well as any possible defenses that could be claimed (and whether those may succeed on t
First page will be the chemistry of your atom, molecule or compound, second page will be health, medical, human biological, and/or nursing relevance. It must by two full pages of text, with scientific references on the third page. Any figure should be small in size. Anything short of two pages of text will not get full credit, if you are unsure your can continue your text into the third page just to be sure. No scientific "news" or "health news" sites should be used as references due to their poor accuracy. Academic publications like journal articles, University sites discussing research findings, text books, or sites like the CDC, WHO, NIH etc. can be used. Any chemistry we learned in class is relevant for the chemistry section. The papers will be reviewed by Turn IT In, scanning for plagiarism

Based on what you have read in the Christopherson text and what you've seen in the powerpoint lecture in this unit, please do the following:
1) If you begin a flight in Bogot Colombia destined for Los Angeles, how will the flight path potentially be altered by the Coriolis effect? Explain the essential mechanism of the Coriolis effect in your answer.
2) Describe how both the Sahara desert at (30 degrees north latitude) and the Amazon rain forest (along the equator) are both products of the same process driven by Hadley cells. (three or four sentences minimum)
3) Explain how the CORIOLIS effect and HADLEY CELLS combine to create the Easterly (flowing from east to west) TRADE WINDS in the tropics. (three sentences minimum)
Length: This should be three paragraphs
For this assignment, please write a minimum of 300 words in a discussion-style format. In other words, no intro or conclusions are required. This assignment is worth 50 Points, and will be submitted as a file attachment to Canvas. Turnitin.com will review your discussion for plagiarism as well.
Please choose any example in the news from the past six months that demonstrates some sort of rift between the U.S. Government and the scientific community. Discuss this news, in the context of the sometimes contentious relationship between scientists and government officials. What is the rift, and why do you think it exists?
(This assignment meets GELO 2: Demonstrate ways in which science influences and is influenced by complex societies, including political and moral issues)

Discussion: How do we ensure that society appreciates the full importance of plants?
Plants are fundamental to all life on Earth. They provide us with food, fuel, fiber, industrial feedstocks, and medicines. They render our atmosphere breathable. They buffer us against extremes of weather and provide food and shelter for much of the life on our planet. However, we take plants and the benefits they confer for granted. Given their importance, should we not pay plants greater attention and give higher priority to improving our understanding of them? Awareness could be increased through the media, school education, and public understanding of science activities, but a major step-change in activity will be required to make a substantial difference. Maybe you have some ideas.
Instructions:
Write a summary of your thoughts on the question How do we ensure that society appreciates the full importance of plants?. It should be a minimum of 200 words (ideally between
