The Hypothetical
The Republic of Amistan has brought an action in the International Court of Justice [ICJ] against Malevoland, for violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Both are parties to the convention. There is ample proof in expert reports and the media that Malevoland has targeted a religious minority group by: 1) Confining and, in some cases, executing the groups religious and political leaders who have resisted Malevolands assimilation policies, and 2) Removing children from the group to place them in camps where the children are forbidden from speaking the language of their group or engaging in other cultural practices. At this point it is unclear whether Malevoland intends to return the children. The ICJs jurisdiction in this matter, under article IX of the Genocide Convention, hinges on whether Malevolands actions amount to genocide under article II of the convention. Annotated Bibliography (Part 1 of the Semester-long "Big Picture" project)
For your Bibliography, you need to provide a collection of at least twenty (20) resources that are related to your "Big Question" identified for your semester project and discussed in your "Big Question" journal entry. You should draw upon these sources as you seek an answer to your question. You should identify these sources through your own research.
Your sources can include Web sites, books, movies, YouTube clips, online photo archives, songs, etc. For those sources that are available through the Internet, include a link to the Web page, video, song, etc. in addition to the title of the source and the name of the author. For those sources that can't be linked to on the Internet, you'll need to provide the full MLA style citation for the source (see The Citation Machine (Links to an external site.) ).
The majority of the sources should be from scholarly Web sites including ".edu" dom
After discussing in class, you will write a discussion post. In the post, share three annotations with at least one from the Chapter on Surveys (Schensul & LeCompte, CHAPTER 9, PG 241) and an additional two from either of the short articles on quantification debates (1 Merry 2 Porter). What are some current debates and trends on quantification and give one or two ways in which these issues apply to your topic of research. Write a 350-400 word summary.
