Being knowledgeable is not always enough; sometimes, nurses must reach out to legislators. This assignment requires you to seek out a current bill in local or federal legislation. Many websites, including those of congressmen and senators, exist.
Choose a topic of interest that affects your practice. Research the topic and write a letter to your senator or congressman (state or federal). In the letter, include the following:
• The name of the bill and a URL link to information related to it;
• A brief description of the bill;
• The bill’s impact on your practice and patients;
• An anecdote that describes its importance; and
• Your request that they either support or oppose the bill. Support your ideas with research.
Your letter must be 2 pages and double spaced (for ease of grading). It must also include a title page and reference page.
