I very strongly recommend you look at these guidelines for writing an effective philosophy paper. It takes about
15 minutes to read through them. Taking them seriously will dramatically improve your paper:
http://www.jimpryor.net/teaching/guidelines/writing.html
You don’t need a ‘thesis statement’ for the paper. You’re being asked to answer specific questions. You should
start your paper with a simple overview of what you will set out to do in the paper i.e. “In this paper, I will
discuss x, y, and z.... I will conclude the paper by considering w...arguing that...”
The question requires that evidence from the text be cited in defense of your arguments. In citing Kant, you
should refer to the numbers in the margin of the text e.g. (G 4:428). Do not cite page numbers. Sources other
than those assigned for the course should not be used to write your essay.
In an essay of no more than 7 pages, answer the following question:
1. Kant argues that the supreme principle of morality is the categorical imperative, of which he offers different
formulations. Focusing on the second formulation of the categorical imperative, the Formula of Humanity (FH):
(a) Explain, in your own words, why FH might be thought to be a plausible candidate for the supreme principle of
morality. In explaining why one might take it to be a plausible supreme principle, be sure to explain both what
is meant by 'supreme principle of morality'. Give examples that are meant to persuade the reader that the FH is
genuinely useful for helping us understand the moral wrongness of certa
The paper will focus on one point regarding your interpretation of the sentence’s meaning. State the point in the
introduction, give reasons to support it in the body of the paper, and recap it in the conclusion. Evaluation
will be based on whether the paper has a point, the organization by which the point is developed (do ideas flow
from those that precede and lead into those that follow), and grammatical accuracy/writing proficiency.
Be attentive to the sentence by listening to what it says; let it speak in light of the larger context of the
passage in which it appears. Be unhurried with your thinking and writing. Take time to experience your thought
process. Trace the specific steps that lead to your more general statements. Get into depth. Reveal what the
sentence implicitly suggests, not just explicitly states. The paper must display clearly articulated thinking.
Say exactly what you mean; express yourself simply and concisely.
The overman is the meaning of the earth". Nietzsche p. 125.
Students will be expected to use the following format on papers. Font: Times New Roman; font size: 12; one inch
margins; double-spaced lines; numbered pages. Papers must be stapled at the upper left corner. Footnotes: author
and page in parentheses after citation. Works cited: last page. Omit cover page. Write course number, professor,
and date at the top of page one; write your name on the back of the last page to assure anonymity and
impartiality with respect to grading.

I would like to propose that my research paper topic be on Tracking the Consumer. The paper would go into how

GPS trackers, what separates the retailers data collection from what the government can do and how much is an
invasion of privacy?
Clearly the Civil War marks a watershed in American Diplomatic History. The Nation, formerly an inward-

This is a two-part assignment with a dual purpose. For the first part, you will complete a comparison matrix with
which you will gather information on three studies related to your dissertation topic/interest area. For the
second part of the assignment, you will write a paper using the completed matrix and your reading of the three
articles. When you write the paper, you will be extending the research on your dissertation topic/interest area
and addressing the tools used by research institutions to assure the ethical compliance of researchers.
Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the Comparison Matrix Paper:
The Comparison Matrix Paper uses a grading rubric. Instructors will be using the rubric to grade the
assignment; therefore, students should review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar
with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

This case study is based on an article by Simon Zadek in the Harvard Business Review for 2004. The case study has
however been adapted and supported by academic commentary from other noted authors. There are two appendices. The
first gives more detail to the activities taken by Nike. The second consists of some ideas and debates from noted
authors. Business ethics and corporate social responsibility are new aspects of international business. From
these quotations, from academic literature and from coverage of international events through news media, it is
clear that subjects covered by the terms ‘business ethics’ and ‘corporate social responsibility’ are exercising
ever greater influence on the policy and strategies of large companies. Employees and customers live in many
different countries. These large companies need the support of, or at least the tolerance of, national
governments to be able to operate in different locations across the world.
The research essay being proposed is going to look at the prevalence of wars and violence in Europe and Asia
surrounding the Mediterranean between 1500 and 1800 AD, and how religion undoubtedly played the largest role in
prompting violence amongst the various Mediterranean regions, with politics as an added stimuli.
