Do SmartBoards really improve student learning and what does that really mean? Is the supporting research funded
by Smart Technologies? If so, is there unbiased research available instead? In other words, what does the
literature REALLY say?
SmartBoard is just one of the technologies that claims improved student learning. Take your pick: Personal
Response Systems (PRS or “clickers”), tablets/iPads, probeware (Vernier, Pasco, etc.), and so on. The one thing
that all these technologies have in common is that a corporation or company stands to make or lose money
depending on sales. Sometimes the research concerning student gains holds a potential for bias.
Pick a technology and write a literature review on student learning/performance using unbiased research. You
might also identify suspect research as a point of caution. Your paper should be between 8 pages, double-spaced,

� Methods of risk analysis � including hazard characterisation and exposure assessment to reach a decision on
safety of a food ingredient.

toxicology & feeding trials, dose related effects and ADI.
