Wooing
Respond to the focus questions by Sunday, October 30th:
Recall the grades of thinking from William Golding’s story, “Thinking as a Hobby”. Grade two thinking is a step up from being oblivious to the world around you, but it’s still limited. For instance, grade two is when people notice contradictions, but don’t seem to know what to do about them.
1. What contradictions do you see in Wooing the Muse? How does Langston Hughes address them?
2. Look up some information about Hughes and try to explain why he took the approach he did in this story.
3. What is the strength of satire in addressing an issue like racism?
