Social class can be harder to discern than racial or ethnic differences. However, on an educational level, it can be the most important predictor of what kind of financial and educational opportunities someone will have in life.

In 2005, according to the United States Department of Health and Human       Services, one in six Americans under the age of 18 lives in poverty. Of all of      the developed countries, the United States has the highest rate of children           living in poverty.

  1. Identify and discuss the implications of socioeconomic levels on the education of students in a contemporary school setting.
  2. Apply conceptual understandings of class structures.
