Presentation #1: Identifying and Illustrating my Skills

There is a valuable lesson to be learned from those who have conducted successful job searches: it is extremely important to define who you are as you embark on your job search AND to be able to illustrate who you are through short stories from your professional and personal life that demonstrate the unique strengths you bring to a role.

Objective:  Develop a 3-4 minute recorded presentation in which you  (1) define who you are now, using Sidney Fines Three Kinds of Skills, (2) illustrate your skills with a story from your life as directed below and (3) set a goal as to how you will demonstrate/apply your skills in your current internship. You will use PowerPoint or a similar tool to create your presentation.

Recording Directions:  record your completed presentation and upload it int

History

 Please answer all questions. Steve

  • Some observers express concern about high reelection rates for incumbent members of Congress and have advocated for term limits as a way to formally remove longtime members of Congress. Why do you think these proposals for term limits are being advanced? Are there advantages to having long-serving members of Congress in office (e.g., when dealing with an entrenched bureaucracy)? What do recent election cycles say about the need for term limits? Are there other ideas for systemic reform such that challengers are placed on a more equal footing with incumbents?
  • Given that most presidential powers are delegated and informal, the presidents ability to shape American politics is largely contingent on public support. To what extent do flagging political support or declining poll numbers hamper the presidents ability to lead Congress and the nation? Are there areas where this fact will be of little consequ

Course Learning Assignment 2

Select, research, and analyze a real organization (public, private, or non-profit). You may select an organization in which you have worked or have been a member.

Examine a problem or issue of concern within that organization. Be selective in choosing an issue or problem within an organization, as a lack of depth in the issue itself will not be an acceptable excuse for lack of depth in the analysis. The purpose of this CLA is to apply both what has been learned in the course as well as your own independent research to problems in an organization of your choice.

Focus on an issue or problem that the organization is facing and is relevant to the content of this course. It will likely take several reflection sessions to identify a problem or issue that can be clearly defined, is manageable in scope, and is relevant to the course, so start this CLA weeks before it is due.
